Upside Down

So proud to share my EP 'Upside Down', released on the legendary Japanese label mulemusiq with you.

Before we head into faster territories with my releases, I decided to produce something playful, slow and enriched with my acoustic instruments such as my main one, the violin and also one which I've auto didactically taught myself - the flute. I used the traditional Chinese Xiao flute as well as the classic flute.
It felt so satisfying to weave these beautiful sounds into the arrangements, to let the acoustic world blend into the electronic realm - it works so well.

It's been fun to explore the housy territory for mulemusiq in this release. I've always wanted to do that and it ended up to be my very own version of house, as it's located somewhere in between different genres but still offers some characteristics of house in the tracks besides 'Beyond Light and Shade', which is more breakbeaty and might go more into the direction of general Electronica I guess.

The whole cosmos of the EP is a surreal one, inspired by things like Adventure Time, Ghibli and Nintendo games like Zelda BOTW or Animal Crossing.
I love weird things, which seem to be random at first but still harmonic in a way. The vocal of Upside Down was a freestyle which I recorded in one go - I love writing lyrics and telling stories which make no sense but create a new surreal world, loaded with cuteness, pictures full of fantasy and of course my beloved nature inspired motifs such as leafs growing out of my ears ;)

Rrose x Polygonia - Dermatology

Eaux proudly announces a new collaborative mini-album from Rrose and Polygonia. Containing six tracks and over 40 minutes of music housed in a fully printed sleeve with artwork by Jon-Paul Villegas, the record focuses squarely on the dancefloor while infusing it with the kinds of psychoactive drones, intricate polyrhythms, and relentless modulations that have come to identify both of their approaches to sound. Featured heavily are their shared interests in sonic shapes that resemble natural forms and conjure tactile feelings, in this case related to themes of skin-like surfaces and circulatory systems experienced simultaneously on a micro and macro level. While several of the tracks hover in a flexible tempo range between 125 and 130 bpm, "Stretcher" reaches up to 142, and the closing track "Vena Cava" trades the kick drums for spectrally processed percussion and endlessly diverging high-frequency pulses.

The story behind the release starts in 2022, when Rrose reached out to Polygonia after noticing that her tracks were appearing in their sets more frequently than any other artist. Never before had Rrose proposed a collaboration with someone they hadn't met before, but there was such an obvious connection in their approach to sound that it felt necessary. As it turns out, Polygonia had only become interested in techno after hearing Rrose perform at a festival in 2018. It all made sense, and they began sharing sketches and unfinished ideas with each other, trading them back and forth until they reached completion. Without any announcement of their collaboration, the two artists have since been asked to share the stage several times. It seems there are other people out there sensing a connection...

Polygonia & Shoal - Limping on Clouds

Limping on Clouds is an EP born from an in-depth collaboration between Polygonia and Shoal. The A-side features one carefully curated track by each artist, while the B-side is a true symbiosis of their work, evolving from a single element or layer loop into a complete mix and arrangement that was gradually developed over time and distance.

Side A opens with Shoal's “Majola,” featuring layered breaks and a deep, slung bass, followed by Polygonia's “Repeat,” infused with kinetic energy, rhythmic elements, and euphonic vocal samples.
The synergistic B-side unfolds with a subtle, organic rhythm. “Pendulum” overflows with lush ambiance, creating an ethereal mood that pervades the record. The EP concludes on a downtempo note with the track “Limping on Clouds.”

Da Nao Tian Gong EP

Embracing Midgar's story-tale approach, 'Da Nao Tian Gong' (also known as 'Havoc in Heaven') stands as Polygonia's latest four-track EP. Lindsey Wang draws direct influence from a beloved childhood cartoon, itself inspired by the ancient Chinese legend 'Journey to the West' and the iconic character Sun Wukong. In a retro-modern twist, the tracks vividly depict Sun Wukong's essence: 'Jindou Yun' embodies the swiftness of his cloud, 'Shen Wai Shenfa' invokes his magical hair with tribal rhythms, 'Ruyi Jingu Bang' mirrors his legendary staff's power, and 'Disha Shu' portrays his 72 Transformations through vibrant harmonics.
